I was a big keyworder when I started using Picassa back in the 90s. Remember that? I got in the habit and it worked wonderful for finding photos. After a while, however, I ended up with so many keywords that it became burdensome to any management. I made the switch to Mac and love it. But Apple photos has made it easy to add captions both on the Mac and the iPhone. So I find I do a lot of my management as I’m in the field so to speak. It’s simple to add captions on an iPhone. The other thing that has bothered me is the iPhone does not support keywords. You can search by them, but you can’t add or edit them. A while back I started a project of switching everything to captions as I can use captions to give context which is impossible with keywords. I plan to keep a few keywords, how many I haven’t decided, for general organization. I’m encouraged to hear that I can add and edit keywords from my phone.
I’m with you. As I recall, in the digital Dark Ages (1999-2009) about the only place you could find the Description/Caption field was in Photoshop. Keywords and file names were about the only data you could write to. I’m sure that almost all of the 237 keywords in my Photos App date back at least 15 years. Time for some house cleaning.
