I do use Live Photo and rarely go back to change the key photo. I read through this article twice to be sure I didn’t miss something as you describe each of the reasons for not liking the Live Photo feature but I really don’t see a negative point to using it. Why not have the safety net? Live Photo is the insurance policy you hope you’ll never need.
I'm with you (obviously) although I use it more selectively. As a professional photo manager I get client feedback about Live Photo images around concerns that it takes up a ton of storage space (it doesn't) and it complicates sharing photos (it shouldn't). The underlying question being what good is Live Photo if you don't care about sharing photos with people bouncing in and out of the pool. To your point, it's a handy safety net if nothing else.
